Research and study are integral to Patricia Laspino's studio practice and drawings are the foundation of her paintings.
She states, "Drawings provide me with the means to understand my subjects; to become intimately acquainted with the complex structural geometries in nature. I consider myself a composer in art and drawings provide me the space to design my paintings like a musical score.
Working with graphite on paper or vellum in black, white and shades of gray with a bold and intimate approach, I carefully construct compositions that emphasize the interplay of light and shadow upon the sublime architecture of natural forms.”
All the drawings in this exhibition are the original compositions by Patricia Laspino for her oil painted masterworks. They have never been on view or been available for acquisition. The drawings are framed using archival museum quality materials.
