Oil on Canvas, 60" x 36", 2020
Over her 40 year career, Patricia Laspino has developed a signature style that entwines dozens of layers of transparent oil color glazes over a sculptural ground work of botanical impressions. Her large-scale paintings use orchids symbolically to raise awareness for environmental stewardship and convey the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. Laspino's paintings are in many prominent private and public collections across the United States.
Global Garden exhibitions use orchid and botanical art as a vehicle for awareness through beauty and inquiry.
Art & science are intertwined beckoning the viewer to explore fresh perspectives and stimulating new conversations about nature's wonders.
Laspino states, "Scientific and cultural research is an integral part of my studio practice.
My paintings tell stories to connect people with nature in unique and unexpected ways."
Laspino's art is the cornerstone of the Orchid Alliance Project, an art + science environmental effort with important national and international significance.
The Project brings together participants and collaborators who share a common sensibility for global stewardship.
Through the vehicle of art via stimulating and informative art, exhibitions and events, Laspino seeks to increase advocacy and appreciation for the natural world by interweaving the historical, biological and cultural significance of orchids, other plant and animal species.
